Patti Caplette

Producing Artistic Director

A prolific choreographer, writer and director, Patti first discovered her love of performing arts at her mother's dance studio in a Vancouver suburb where, by age five, she was showing an impressive nascent talent for performance and creation.

The grand stages of the world began calling when she was barely out of her teens, and Patti was soon touring internationally with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, where she performed masterworks of the legendary George Balanchine, and also starred in several ground-breaking productions, including the daring, internationally-acclaimed ballet Tommy, based on The Who's seminal rock opera. After three years with Les Grands Ballets, Patti joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet where, over fifteen years with the prestigious company, she danced in many acclaimed productions, including Peter Wright's Giselle John Neumeier's Nutcracker, Agnes de Milne's Fall River Legend and Rudi Van Datzig's Romeo and Juliet.

After much success as a dancer, Patti turned to choreography and was soon creating award-winning work for dance companies, national award shows, the opera, the symphony and even the circus! Her credits include the Pan American Games, the Canadian Country Music Awards, Canada Day on Parliament Hill and Her Majesty the Queen's Royal Visit.

Patti's undeniable talent for translating a creative vision to stage was soon applied to theatre, film and television, and she continued to wow audiences and win awards. Her film credits includeAutumn Lady for CanWest Global (bronze medal - International Film & Television Festival in New York) and Journey - A Mythical Dance Fantasy for Bravo! Television (Blizzard Award - Best Performing Arts Film) and a Gemini Award for Best Production Design.

As artistic director of Koba Entertainment, Patti oversees the creative aspects of every production, including direction, choreography and script writing. Koba's touring shows feature much-loved characters from children's literature and television including The Backyardigans, Dora the Explorer, Toopy and Binoo, Mike the Knight, Max & Ruby, Franklin the Turtle, Strawberry Shortcake andDoodlebops - on stage with original music, dance, sets, costumes and age-appropriate storylines. Like a master symphonic conductor, Patti builds shows that are cohesive, consistent and, above all, excellent entertainment for some of the toughest audiences in the world!
